From the Dev Team: Building Locations on Sociera
Bringing real-world presence into your digital network
One of the things we’ve always believed at Sociera is that proximity matters. Being in the same place as someone—at a café, an event, a coworking space—creates a completely different kind of connection. That’s why we’re working on a new feature called Locations.
Here’s the idea:
When you’re near a Sociera location, you’ll automatically check in and join a group chat with others who are there. As long as you remain nearby, you stay in the community. If you leave the area, you’ll be removed after 24 hours. You can also leave manually at any time.
It’s our way of helping people connect more naturally in the spaces they already move through.
With Locations, we want to make meeting people feel less forced and more serendipitous. You’ll be able to:
. Discover active locations and drop in on local conversations
. Connect with others just by being present
. Join or leave without effort or awkward introductions
We’re also building in light features like Nearby and Passed By—ways to see who else is around or who you might’ve crossed paths with, without overloading your screen or feed.
A quick note on privacy
We’re also moving Ghost Mode to the homepage, making it easier to turn on when you want to stay invisible. While it’s active, you won’t show up in Locations, Nearby, or any location-based chats. This change puts more privacy control right at your fingertips.
What’s next
This feature is still in the works, but we wanted to share a look behind the scenes. We’re building Locations to make local connection feel more natural, more fluid—and always on your terms.
Stay tuned.
